I can't tell you how excited I am to share this new book and the drills I have laid out. I truly believe it will benefit so many. The PB9/13-GRID teaching system is really a great way for the player to have a visual of a specific target and have a purpose to her or her shot selection. If you just hit the ball to get it over and JUST keep it in play, well, in my opinion, you are just playing defense and not working to score, set up or put the ball away at some point in the rally. YES, there ARE times when you need to just keep it in play, but don't get this confused with thinking that all shots should be put away. NO>>>>
So many scenarios to try to cover in a short script here but... All shots should still have a PURPOSE in my opinion. In all my 50 odd years playing sports and 35 years of coaching experiences in a multitude of sports, I was told and I taught "you want to put the ball where the other team is NOT." If I just hit to hit, what's the point of playing to try and win? Hit with a PURPOSE in mind. In baseball, we DON'T want to hit to the outfielders, we want to hit between them. In volleyball, we don't want to hit to the defensive specialist, we want to hit the ball to the floor in front, left or right of them. A PURPOSEFUL shot to ultimately score. In pickleball, the "purpose" is one of several things as well: A passing shot, a strategically placed dink to move the opponent out of position (the setup shot), a recovery lob, a block 'kitchen' placement, to name a few. PURPOSEFUL placements, lead to purposeful attacks. So don't just hit to keep it in play hit with a purpose to ultimately lead to a score, side-out or new server. Just as in football, the reason a center hikes the ball to the quarterback is: to get the ball to the guy with the 'arm' to throw it down the field to the guy who can 'catch' the ball while in the meantime trying to protect him from getting sacked. Each player has a purpose and a job to do. IF each job is done well a successful outcome occurs. Using the PB9/13-GRID system you can have a visual as you practice and then take it to the court. Visualize the space, visualize the shot placement and "wa-la" a better shot placement for a possible winning stroke outcome. So have a PURPOSE to your shot selection and have a visual target in mind as you attack your opponent with well-placed shots Well, they arrived. How amazingly cool. I can't believe it. My dream of writing a book has been complete. I did it!.
Now I know if I can do it, so can you. All my favorite quotes on my desk: believe and you can achieve, Faith without action is useless, Plan your work, work your plan, Fully commit to your goal and it shall be attained and my favorite. We become what we think about. All of them are true. Anything is possible with a desire in the heart and a great support group really does help. I'm so blessed to have what I have and even more blessed to have accomplished what I have set out to do. I strive to keep my word to my friends and family and sometimes it's harder to keep it to yourself. BUT, I did it. If you are reading this I hope you find a dream to live and live it. Mine, I have a feeling is just getting started. The book, the drills, the teaching wow. I'm so lucky. Thank you, Jesus!. With all this excitement and teaching pickleball is really building up. I have great students and I think all of them have such great potential at each level they are achieving. Some even more. Next month is the Ambassador retreat where the excitement of seeing the people who are expanding pickleball around the nation will be hanging out. Can't wait to s meet up with the old and meet the new. I never thought pickleball would take me here. But I'm loving it. Some disheartening new is that the ole left knee joint doesn't want to follow directions and calm down. So getting the darn thing replaced will put a kink in my gig. But it will just make me that much stronger as I move into this wild and wacky 'SENIOR' year? Love it!. Seems as though Dr. H and I have a re-occurring 10-year surgical dates. It will be a battle but one for the good. It will give me time to work on more cool stuff. So until next time,I hope you get your copy of the Pickleball CPR -Coaching Pickleball Readiness and start your drilling today. Remember the EBook is available for the Nook and the Kindle. Be sure to choose the right format. Otherwise, a spiral copy is easy to handle is a little more convenient courtside. Be well and stay active! Not really a bad thing, they just want a Word doc. WHICH is a bit of pain because every time I change something.. one section ALWAYS gets screwed up. BUT.. I'm over it and I believe that it's good to go. Sent in what I hope to be the final file from me.. It's sooooo nerve wrecking. Once set up, the eBook will be done most likely before the actual book. Now I just have to figure out all the web hosting issues. This too, has been adventure. Enough.. off to see the Pickle crew tonight.. Not playing.
Had three lessons today my body is in rejection mode right now. I have to say, I just enjoy the heck out of sharing what I know through teaching. I'm blessed to have the experience to do it. Each time I teach I have a new drill pop in my head. I keep writing them down. Who knows.. maybe Volume 2.. Already have a name for it.. But we'll see how it goes. Need a few more drills and I can start that edition.. LOL.. I might need a break.. Designing the drills is 'almost' as addicting as the game itself.
